Because our course has a lot of intrinsic value for students, many teachers are reluctant to add an external incentive (like course credit). However, we have learned through years of research that making the course a formal class requirement is crucially important for improving student outcomes. Students are more likely to do the course in full if they receive some kind of credit, and they can only benefit from the course if they actually do it. We recommend you set a clear expectation that students should complete all the lessons and Daily Beats. This works best if the course is considered a formal class requirement where you provide appropriate incentives (e.g. participation credit).
