In order for students to complete the surveys, we need consent from students and their guardians. There are two approaches to collecting consent: opt-out vs. opt-in. Your school can decide which approach to take.
Opt-Out Consent: This is the simpler approach, and we recommend you use it if possible. We will provide you with a letter to guardians that describes the research surveys (in PDF format). You can deliver digital or hard copies to students and their guardians. From the date this paperwork is distributed, students and guardians have 7 days to contact us by email to opt-out of the research. We will contact you whenever a student opts out.
Opt-In Consent: With this approach, all students and guardians must sign consent forms. We will provide the PDFs. Typically, you would deliver hard copies to students to take home. If you have an established way to digitally obtain signatures from guardians, that’s even easier. We recommend distributing the consent forms at least 14 days before the first survey is administered to ensure all students have time to complete them. Our team will need either the original signed consent forms or a digital record of them.
Note: Consent is not necessary for students to complete the digital course. If a student opts out of the research, they can still participate in the course.
